The first mini central air-conditioner is launched

1990 saw the launch of the mini central air-conditioner, a new and revolutionary product, which the development team had labored over for almost 3 years. The mini-central was full of technological refinements and advancements and meant only one air-conditioner per apartment, rather than one fitted in each room.

Initially, the idea of bringing cool air to the whole apartment through concealed pipes sounded unlikely, but as the model was developed and refined it gained positive public opinion. Commercial results soon followed, and the mini central air-conditioner became a huge success and a major contributor to Electra’s profits, with almost 3,000 units sold in the first year, and around 30,000 units sold each year thereafter, including exports to Europe.

At the same time, Electra also developed a remote control to operate the air-conditioner, replacing the switch on the unit itself. The ability to operate the air-conditioner from afar consolidated Electra’s image as a modern, innovative company focused on ease and convenience.
