Manufacturing air-conditioning for public transportation
It’s the 60’s and Electra’s air-conditioning department get creative and decides to develop air-conditioning for buses – an innovative and creative idea by people who saw what the market didn’t even know it needed, and decided to make it a reality.
Among the challenges they faced were deciding where to place the air-conditioner, how to solve the weight problem and how to get electricity to the unit. United Tours became their testing partner, providing Electra with a tourist bus to use as a testing ground. After many trials, Electra manufactured the most successful model and introduced a product like no other to the Israeli market.
The first air-conditioned busses were fitted in 1964, by 1968 air-conditioning on buses had become the norm; positioning Electra, once again, as a top innovator in the field.
