In the late fifties Electra realized the latent economic potential in planning and installing central cooling systems in large buildings. Each such project required its own planning and design, in accordance with the size, purpose and age of the building. The first central air-conditioning system was fitted by Electra at the Weizmann Institute of Science. Following the success of the project, the government allowed more units to be imported, and Electra installed air-conditioning in many hospitals, army bases, airports, General Council buildings, cultural centers, factories, hotels and offices.

Air-conditioning engineering became a popular profession, well-paid and with excellent growth potential. As they continued to grow Electra hired the best engineering graduates. Young engineers at the start of their careers had to quickly come to grips with huge and complex projects, turning Electra into the unofficial but best ‘air-conditioning school’.

As time went on, air-conditioning systems came to be seen as essential and Electra set the professional standard in Israel. Air-conditioning was installed in every new building, along with plumbing and electricity, and Electra retirees became the most sought after consultants, planners and supervisors in the field.
