Import and marketing of electrical goods, elevators, and air-conditioners from American brands Emerson and Westinghouse
Immediately after the establishment of the State of Israel, Electra received its import license. Right away the company began selling home electrical appliances, to the value of $1000-$2000 per year, as well as providing repair and maintenance services to its customers.
In 1954 Gesundheit made contact with American company Emerson, the outcome of which was the import of air-conditioners to Israel for the first time. This brand new product suited the Israeli climate down to the ground, and all that remained was to find a Hebrew word to describe it.
The air-conditioning market took off, and by this time most of the company’s revenue came from assembly and installation. The tiny workshop employed engineers, technicians and young assistants who rode to customer’s homes on motorbikes with the air-conditioning units strapped to their backs.
